When traveling with your large dog, finding accommodation can be frustrating as many hotels have a weight limit. So it is always great to find a pet-friendly hotel that accommodates a large dog, like a golden retriever.

We often visit Solvang, CA, whenever we head to Santa Barbara. This was our first time staying for the weekend and Wine Valley Inn made it memorable.

Wine Valley Inn & Cottages

Built in the early ’80s, Wine Valley Inn & Cottages is a boutique hotel designed in the traditional old-world Danish style but it has undergone several renovations, particularly in the interior of the rooms.

Situated just off the main tourist street, the hotel is still within a short walk of the main attractions. The main building features a distinctive clock tower and tucked away behind the property, you’ll find a charming garden, koi pond, and cozy cottages.

Pet Policy – Wine Valley Inn & Cottages

Wine Valley Inn & Cottages has a pet-friendly policy (from their website) “with a fee of $25 per pet, per night, plus tax, with a maximum of two pets allowed. Pets must not be left unattended in the guest room.”

When we made our reservation, we called Wine Valley Inn directly to confirm the pet fee and whether they accept large dogs, like a Golden Retriever. They welcomed dogs of all sizes, and during our stay, we met many other dog owners.

Staying at Dog-Friendly Wine Valley Inn

We arrived before the 4:00 pm check-in time, so we relaxed in the lobby and got some work done in one of the working areas.
We stayed in Room 104, which is located on the side, near the back lobby door and the front courtyard. It’s a king-sized room with a large, gated patio.

When we entered the room, we found it well-cleaned, and there was a welcome package for our dog—a dog bowl, a bottle of water, and a bag of treats.

The room is spacious, decorated in a minimalist style with essential furniture, and most importantly, there’s no carpeting.
The most enjoyable part of the room was the patio, especially for our dog, Kenzo. The patio faces the street sidewalk, and Kenzo had a great time greeting everyone who passed by.

The room is also next to Lost Chord Guitars, a music venue where artists perform. We attended one evening, and it was dog-friendly. Surprisingly, despite the venue being next door, the music noise didn’t bother us, especially Kenzo, during our weekend stay.

All in all, we had a comfortable two-night stay. Kenzo had a delightful time, and the room’s ambiance played a big part in that.
